Run an analysis

To run an analysis and generate a report using an existing trace:

  1. Select Projects from the menu bar.

  2. Select the desired project name to open the Projects Overview, then select Reports. The table displays details for the latest report(s) in the selected project:

    • Slot Name where the active (most current) report and any archived versions are stored
    • Report Name auto-generated using the name of the uploaded trace, or user-defined when the report is ran using the API
    • Type of trace this slot can analyze; this must match the uploaded trace
    • Trace name
    • Last analysis date
    • Versions - number of report versions stored in the slot
    • Tags - any user-defined custom tags
    • Profile used for the analysis
    • Status - of the report: Pending, Done, or Failed

Caution

If the uploaded trace and slot type do not match, the analysis will fail. To run an analysis using a trace of a different type, you must create a new slot that matches that trace.

From the Reports table

There are two scenarios for running a report from the Reports table:

  • Reusing an existing trace
  • Uploading a new trace

Refer to the following instructions that apply to your situation.

Reusing an existing trace

If you are using an older version of a trace has already been analyzed in the project:

  1. Locate the report in the project Reports table.
  2. Select Upload trace in the report row. A new report is automatically generated using the uploaded trace and associated project profile. The new report is added to the same slot; it is now the active version and the previous version is archived.

Tip

For a project with a large number of active reports, use the filter function to help you find the report you need. Refer to Filter Fundamentals for more details.

Uploading a new trace

If you are using a trace for which there is no previous version in AQtive Guard, follow these instructions to create a new slot and upload a fresh trace.

  1. At the top of the project Reports table, select Create a new slot.

  2. Provide details for your new slot:

    • Add a unique Slot name
    • Add a meaningful Slot description
    • If desired, create one or more custom Tags to help you locate and organize reports. To create a tag, type the desired tag name and press enter.
  3. Use the Select slot type dropdown to indicate the desired type for this slot, only traces of this type can be analyzed by the slot.

Important

You must select the slot type that will be used for the uploaded trace. If the types do not match, the analysis will fail.

  1. Select Create Slot.
  2. Select Upload trace to upload the new trace and launch an analysis using the profile associated with the project. A new report will be generated and saved as the active report in the new slot.

Note

Once a slot has been created, you can not change the slot type. To run an analysis using a trace of a different type, you must create a new slot that matches that trace.

Upload size limitations

When uploading PCAP files, consider the available memory on the analysis VM. For optimal performance, the recommended file size is within half of the server’s RAM. For example, on a 16-gigabyte RAM server, limit uploads to files not exceeding 8 gigabytes.

Caution

Exceeding the prescribed file size limit for PCAP uploads may result in server instability. It is strongly recommended to stay within the designated file size limit to maintain server stability and application performance.
